these are our best friends'! they had a baby 6 months ago and he is my favorite. he cracks me up when he laughs and i love that i seem to be the funniest person to him. i will take that any day!

i took their pictures this morning in denton, tx and had a lot of fun. even after i have been down for 3 days because of a stupid kidney stone. i was definately wore out though afterward and might need a nap!

here are a few of my favs! hope you like them as much as i do!

horrific pain and trip to the er

so it started on tuesday after work. i went to the grocery store and headed home. i started having a little pain in my abodomen. i thought it was just cramps and took some midol. then the real pain started in my right side and then it kept getting worse.
i was crying in pain and it was not going away. we then thought it was uti and questioned going to the er if they were just going to give me an antibiotic.
then it got so bad that i knew something was terribly wrong. it was the longest car ride ever and i filled out the er paperwork and they started drawing blood. the pain made me so nauseous that i had thrown up everything in my stomach (sorry for the gross details).
they started an iv with fluids, nausa medicine and pain medicine, after 3 doses of pain medicine i finally felt ok. they took me for a ct scan and come to find out i have a kidney stone.
it is currently inside my tube leading away from my kidney. pain is still keeping me down...i try to be a little active and drink fluids, but the pain meds make me sooo sleepy!

i have taken this time to finally update my header on my blog that jess from irocksowhat designed for me! i love it and am sorry it took so long to put it up. if you need a new one, definately have her do it for you!

running through january

i have been doing a lot of searching this month. searching for a meaning to my life or direction of where it needs to go. i am wanting to work more on my photography and head my life in a direction that i love, instead of just getting by for the money or social status. i have decided in the fall to go back to school for photography.

i am self taught and know that i can only grow by going to school. this is one of my first pictures taken digitally in 2002 when i lived in colorado.

i decided i will not be shooting any more weddings, because they don't make me happy. i stress about every moment and then it takes me days and days to edit. i don't feel like i have creative control and everything is too posy for me. so now i will focus on fine-art photography and child/family photography. my goal this year is to get at least one of my works into a magazine and hopefully my freelance career will take off. i love traveling and hope someday to do travel photography.

i did post some new photos in my etsy shop! i don't do very well with keeping up with it; 1) because i am really critical of how others view things i love and 2) i get sad if no one buys anything...BUT SCREW IT! i love it and if you do too, then AWESOME, if you don't then it is ok.

so what is happening today? i am meeting up with the lovely Maryam from pamplemousse! for some pictures. i am very excited to take some pictures of her and her little one. i am recovering a little from yesterday, i made homemade pizza (from scratch) and it turned out wonderful and from kaitlyn having her first official sleepover with her friend. it is nice having someone to keep her busy throughout the day!

i took them and her friends little brother to sonic for drinks and it was fun having 3 kiddos to hang out with. makes me very excited to have kids! anyways, i am blabbering! have a great sunday and wonderful week!

Well another year has gone by...No resolutions, because lets face it...I am horrible at keeping them. No weight loss, no job helping to save the world, no paint job in my living room.

Currently I am feeling a little down on myself for no changes. I don't like change, I don't like feeling like a failure when I don't follow through with something. This year, I am going to try and just LIVE. Be the best person I can be each day, make small goals I know I can do to build up my self confidence that I can do things that scare me, bring my art back and not care what everyone else thinks of it.

I hope you are around for these items. I will do 12 monthly goals, one for each month. Might be a new recipe, a new place to visit or buying a stupid mirror for our downstairs bathroom that we can't seem to find cause we are too picky.

I will post these as soon as I figure them out...cause I am procrastinator and I don't mind it.

I did "borrow" this from the lovely Jamie at Inspired Mess. It will go over a little what happened in my life last year.

1. What's the best thing that happened in 2011? We got engaged (for the 2nd time) in Austin over Valentine's weekend. We rekindled our relationship and continue to work on it everyday. I got to go to Montana for a family reunion.

2. What was the most difficult thing? We went through an extreme rough patch and I thought the engagement was off. I lost/left my amazing job to go to one that makes me sad and still trying to find a new one. I came off depression/anxiety medicine for the first time in 3 years and am struggling with life sometimes being hard.
3. What 3 words would you use to describe your 2011? learning, exhausted and hopeful.
4. What were the best books you read? The Hunger Games trilogy. I kinda have an obsession now and want to get a arrow tattoo and learn archary.
5. What was your favorite movie you watched? The Help, but it still wasn't as awesome as the book.
6. How did you change/grow during the year? I have learned that I can't pretend that life is ok and do whatever I want. Sometimes we wish life was all glitter and parties. Sometimes we want to stay in our beds all day and wish the world would disappear just so we don't have to face it. It is a hard realization when you have to grow up to a certain point and suck it up.
7. What was your favorite new discovery? Jillian Michaels' podcast. She is awesome and sometime I hope to meet her and make her proud.
8. Did you have a word or phrase of the year? How did you fulfill your word or phrase? Nope, other than Treat people how you want to be treated. But I have learned that sometimes you need to stop caring so much when people don't give a shit about you. I am awesome and will do great things...now i just have to figure out what those great things are. Is professional cookie eater an option?

Potato Kielbasa Skillet

One thing that I love about pinterest (you should follow me...hint hint), is the recipes. See I am one of those people that is a visual eater. Whenever I go to restaurants, I always look at what the waiter is bringing the table next to me and then wanting to ask them what they ordered and if I could try it...lol. I have never done it, but could you imagine if I did.

I love being able to first see what the food looks like, then look at the recipe to see if it will be something I like. This recipe seemed to have yummy stuff in it and we like smoked sausage in our house.

I didn't take pictures of cooking it, but of the final product. The boy said it was one of his favorite meals and he has a picky palette.

Potato Kielbasa Skillet

original recipe by Taste of Home

Ingredients

1 pound red potatoes, cubed
3 tablespoons water
3/4 pound smoked kielbasa or Polish sausage, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 cups fresh baby spinach
5 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

Directions

Place potatoes and water in a microwave-safe dish. Cover and microwave on high for 4 minutes or until tender; drain.
In a large skillet, saute kielbasa and onion in oil until onion is tender. Add potatoes; saute 3-5 minutes longer or until kielbasa and potatoes are lightly browned.
Combine the brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, thyme and pepper; stir into skillet. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 2-3 minutes or until heated through. Add spinach and bacon; cook and stir until spinach is wilted.

Almost an impulse purchase...

i am not ready for you. i have many more gifts to make, parades and plays to go to, presents to wrap, candy and cookies to make and a house to decorate.

can we stop time just for a few weeks? no? ok...fine!

i am working on some homemade gifts for family (which i will not post until after the holidays), waiting for my christmas cards to come in the mail. the great thing is i had a few people tell me they are looking forward to them, cause we do picture cards every year. one year is a nice pic, the next year is a crazy, silly one.

ok, you don't really give a turkey...haha sounds like some sort of slang for not really caring. do turkey's care? hmm...thought to ponder on.

so hopefully you will see a lot more of me. i have been dormant. work changed, i came off/coming off medicine that i think was making my motivation/creativity hide way inside my body. maybe someday i will chat about that journey.

but moving on from the boring stuff! i am hoping to post more, will be sponsoring some blogs in the next couple of months with some awesome giveaways and also posting recipes. i have been cooking up a storm and loving it more and more. i am not on facebook anymore, but will be using twitter to promote these items...so if you are on twitter you should add me! go do it now...kimistarr...did you do it...no?, i will wait. done? ok, good!

so tomorrow is thanksgiving. i am thankful for a lot of things and this year has allowed me to realize everything around me and appreciate what i have. and that i can change things if i don't like it.

what i honestly wore wednesday

so i decided to participate in maryam of pamplemousse's, what i honestly wore wednesday! i see all these posts of what i wore wednesday and if you know me...i am not one for fashion. i work where i can wear pretty much whatever cause i am locked up in the "cave" all day.

i work for a property management company and do random computer things and don't really deal with people too often.

today was running and slightly cold...i was hoping it was colder (note the sweatshirt), but now it is sunny and in the 80's. bummer dallas clouds, bring me some damn rain! but only at work or home, cause the drivers here think it is the Apocalypse when the weather changes slightly.

so here is what i wore...for reals!

*story about these shoes. last october i was in vegas shooting a wedding and was trying to come home, only to find out they overbooked the flight for seats...bummer! even more of a bummer, my suitcase made the flight. "bye suitcase, hope you like the flight! cause now i am stuck without anything and the next flight is in the morning."

so i went to the outlet stores to find some things to hold me over, pjs, change of undies, makeup (the necessities) and i found these shoes. now see it is hard for me to find shoes at outlet places or any place for that fact. i wear a size 11...hello big foot coming through, grab your children!

so i grabbed these shoes cause the store was about to close in 10 minutes and i had to catch my shuttle back to the hotel.

these were just some cheap tennis shoes for the flight and since have become my go to tennis shoes. they are comfy and warm, i don't tie them...cause i am lazy and really don't see myself running for my life.

ok, end of story....moral - sometimes quick buy shoes that you don't need become your favorite pair.

today was the end of 5 weeks. i can't believe i have stuck to this for the past 5 weeks, including 3 days on vacation in montana at 5000+ elevation. texas is about 500. it was a huge difference and a little defeating - because i felt like i couldn't even run 5 minutes without my lungs burning.

today we did one of the toughest things i have ever done, not just in this journey but in my whole life. i ran for 20 minutes straight. i don't think i have ever done that in my whole life. i had to stay focused, on my body, on my mind, on my goal to finish that run. i have a hard time being proud in myself. i like to succeed well. i am a little hard on myself that if i do it, i find things to be upset about still.

so 5 weeks down and a 20 min nonstop jog today. i did this...only me! i made that run happen, i kept my legs going, i didn't cry when it got hard, i stay focused and got through it and didn't fall on the ground. 3 more weeks to go! Wow!!

P.S. while in montana, i got 3 new colored bandanas! so now you get a rainbow of colors.

Couch to 5K Day 8 - Week 4

week 4 - ugh, i dreaded today. we didn't run in the morning...so then we have to run at night. it would be all good if we lived somewhere where when the sun went down so did the temperature. i hate texas summers! plus today we were doing 3 min/90 sec walk/5 min/2.5 min. walk. 5 minutes might not seem like a whole lot of time when you are 1) watching your favorite movie or 2) driving to get food...but 5 minutes feels like an eternity the first and second time you have to jog it. my body wanted to stop so many times, it wanted to cry and walk home, it wanted to lay in the grass at the park and take a nap. but no, that wouldn't be good now, would it? i made it home, in 1 piece - minus the gallon of sweat i exerted while getting through 16 minutes of jogging.

if you are thinking about doing this...if i can do it anyone can. if you know me, i hate to run. i hate to run because after my 2 hip surgeries i stopped really trying to do exercise that might hurt my hip or knees. i wish i would have done this 10 years ago...but better late than never and live with regrets. so get off your computer and go for a walk or walk with a little jog. you can do it!!

today was a toughy, i had given platelets yesterday at Carter Blood Care. it kicked my butt yesterday and i was so sick for the rest of the day. so todays run was a struggle. the 2nd 90 second jog started the struggle. my legs got really heavy and i started getting a side cramp. after all the jogs, i got sick a little. i just think it was because of my platelet count and blood being a little thinner than usual.

i wish i can get past the negativity and fear that i won't be able to do it. i have to keep in mind that even though i feel like i am going to die...that i am really not. goodness - have you ever heard of anyone dying because of exercising?? that is just ridiculous!

the stress is a little less this week, i have 3 interviews and hopefully will have something lined up so i can go to montana next week.

so i am trying to find ideas for my blog. i have 'cute tuesdays', but that is the only scheduled item on the blog...is there anything else you would love to see??

Couch to 5K Day 7 - Week 3

i was so anxious and nervous right from when i woke up this morning. i knew i would have a 3 minute jog and not sure if i would be able to make it or not. i have to remember to take it one step at a time and if i fail, then i try again - instead of trying to give up and talk myself out of things before i even attempt them. i made it through the first run with no issues and i almost started crying because i was able to do it without too much problems. it was the first time i have been truly proud of myself for sticking with this. today wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.

lately, i have been thinking about even running when i am bored - which is so unlike me. but i think the stress and worry about trying to find a job really is wearing on me. i have this week to find a job, if i don't - then i am not going to be able to go to montana for our family reunion and for my cousins' wedding next week. it makes me really really sad. i miss my family and need a break from this summer heat. i know i need to be responsible and not go if i don't get a job, but i always worry if i will regret not taking the time to spend with my family. i haven't seen my dad or sister since november and the rest of my family for 2 years. i miss the mountains and clean air :) wish me luck this week and i promise to bring back lovely pictures!!

sorry, i forgot to blog last night. we didn't run in the morning, because we both didn't sleep too well, so we ran after dinner - which was a little different. we ran around 9 pm, since it was so hot yesterday and everyday during the texas summer.

i got some side cramps and felt frustrated at the end of the time. i am super scared about week 3 - we are supposed to do a 3 min jog. no pictures today of sweaty me...but the other day i saw this and now when ever i feel gross and hot i think about this.

day 5 proved to be the least difficult day. i tried to stay focused on how i run and how i breath. it feels like it is getting easier, but i worry everyday if i will either hurt myself or fall over.

i know i just need to stay focused, not have negative thoughts and push through the pain and frustration.

i don't know if you have ever watched extreme makeover, weight loss edition - but it is inspirational. if someone can lose 300 lbs in 1 year.

james from ft. worth quoted "until your life runs out of excuses, you aren't going to change" - i might have to put this up in my room so i see it everyday, because excuses are my nemesis!

we have had a few busy months. i have been really bad about posting what is going on. so in the middle of may, i got my gallbladder out after 2+ years of not feeling good when I ate anything. my mom came from nevada to help take care of me. i had a few rough couple of weeks after my surgery, nothing would stay down.

then at the end of may, we went and toured the new cowboy stadium in arlington. this place is huge, the tv screen is huge and everything about it is spectacular.

then on june 4th, charlie's niece graduated from high school. we planned a little party and swimming.

Couch to 5K Day 4

well after a nice long weekend hanging out at the pool and lazy rivering it up...we are back into the running.

once again, i started the run - got 3 runs into the 6 runs and had to turn back around to go to the bathroom. for some reason, my body doesn't like to go until i am the furthest away from the house. so then it is a 10 minute walk back and then we have to start all over again.

the last 2 runs were the most difficult. my legs felt 50 lbs each and 90 seconds felt like eternity. today is going to be a relaxing day at least.

we are getting a new fridge delivered this morning. it only cost us $40 after a gift card we had after we traded in a bunch of phones and other electronics that were just sitting around the house gathering dust.

i will take a pic and post it later today. also coming in a little bit is the activities we have been up to the last few weeks that were on my camera. so an "actual" post coming that doesn't have to do with running. i know you are excited...can you feel your excitement? cause i can!!

Couch to 5K Day 3

today was really rough. after 2 days with no a/c, the last thing i feel like doing running in the warm weather and sweating.

we started off our run and had to come back after the 2nd run, because duty called. lame! when that happens we have to start all over. so it turned into an almost hour walk/run.

on the 2nd to last run i thought i was going to pass out. my lungs were killing me and my body wanted to stop. on the last run, charlie challenged me to keep going after the 60 seconds. i pushed myself and had a hard time catching my breath, but did it and now i could totally take a shower and a nap...if the house was cool.

this weekend, well tomorrow is kaitlyn's 9th birthday. we are going to gaylord texan and stay the night and go to their new pool. she is very excited and so are we. this is the first time we have had kaitlyn on her actual birthday.

we are planning on waking her up at 12:00 am with pancakes and candles to wish her a happy birthday!

day 2 - is a little better than day 1. we ran in the morning instead of 6 pm in the Texas heat. my legs are super sore, so it was a little rough starting off. the rest of the runs were ok, until run #5. it felt like my legs were 100 pounds a piece and i struggled to keep them at a running pace.

i think i am too tired to think of negative thoughts, considering we woke up at 5 am. i tried to just focus on my breathing instead of how my body was feeling. except that my pink running shorts are a little short for my chubby thighs and i had to keep pulling them down so my thighs would stop rubbing together.

i will be thankful of the day were i am not worried about people watching the fat girl run down the street...

our a/c went out last night, so coming into a warm house after being out in the warm morning doesn't help the cool down too much.

hopefully we can get someone out to the house today to make our house cold before tonight's bedtime. stupid texas weather with it crazy summer heat. days like these i wish i lived in montana.

Couch to 5K Day 1

well i decided to start the couch to 5K again with charlie. i was super hesitant to start this again. i am not feeling that well about myself right now. there is a lot of self negativity going on in my head and it is hard to stay focused on the good results.

i had high hopes of starting off today 5 min warmup, 60 second run, 90 second walk and repeat run and walk 8 times.

i got through my 2nd run and was starting to struggle, by the end of my 3rd i started to get the panic that my body couldn't do this. i started to cry and had to get through it in the 90 seconds of walking to start running again. all that was going through my head was, "i can't do this", "you are weak", "you are going to be fat and out of shape forever".

all i wanted to do was walk back home and cry, but charlie would not let me. he kept me going and saying positive things, even though i was saying negative things right back.

i threw up a little a couple of times, cried, thought i was going to pass out, my legs went a little numb.

when i got home i was drenched in sweat and just wanted water. now that i am done i am sore and know i will be tomorrow.

we are going to do this mon-wed-fri. i am really hoping to get through this 9 week journey and run a 5K at the end. i need this for myself because i give up on everything when it gets tough. i need to prove this to myself that i can do this.

so i stole this from kiki over at once more with feeling. it is always nice to know what is going on in the life outside blogging.

1. The phrase or punctuation I overuse most is ..... LOL. I use it in emails, IMs on facebook, twitter. I really do "laugh out loud" a lot though.

2. Today I am thankful for earphones. I haven't been able to concentrate at work without listening to music in my earphones. Easily distracted.

3. My best friend is my Charlie. He knows when I am sad or mad or happy without me even saying anything.

4. A quirky thing about me is I make up words for body parts. I have a food throat and air throat, soft pad and hard pad...i am sure there is others.

5. This weekend I am going to get the last minute things ready for Funky Finds Spring Fling. I am doing my first studio set-up for the photo booth on Saturday. If you live in the area, come stop by.

6. Something that worries me is next week. I am really worried things are going to go word. It makes me want to throw up.

7. On my night stand you would find books, remotes, antacid, a lamp, earphones for watching netflix on my ipod at night when i cant sleep.

weekend craftiness

i decided to give my try at the burlap heart wreath that has been floating around on this awesome site craftaholics anonymous. i am really (really) bad at finishing projects. i bought the burlap and dye a couple of weeks ago and it has just been sitting there.

now i have never dyed anything in my life and actually had to ask the boy what i was supposed to do. he said the washing machine was the best way to dye. so i threw in my awesome pink dye and burlap and followed the instructions...

when i opened up my washing machine it looks like it ate everything and then spit it back out. this is the bundle i pulled out.
this is what it looked like after i gave it a trim and untangled the most crazy mess! *worst than when i tried to tie my hair in knots in the early 2000's cause I thought it might look cool*!
so after it was dried I "attempted" to make a pretty wreath like the directions...I struggled to make it look pretty and not all crazy with the insane fraying edges.
Here is my final product.

i also finally picked up some miniature clothes pins to finally hang our family Polaroid picture banner.

viv over @ oh shoot asked what i was doing a year ago. last year was a rough year for us. last year around this time, i was working hard to do couch to 5k until I hurt my knee in yoga and was down for the count.

that is all i have today. it is cold outside, i don't feel like working and i have a headache the size of the earth (yes that big!).

i like winter, but damnit snow or something! stop being cold with no reason to stay at home.

i am working on doing some weekly features. i want to do something different - just haven't had that "ahha" moment yet.

can't wait for the weekend...cause we are going ROLLERSKATING! hopefully by then, this headache will be gone. if not, i probably should be worried that my brain is falling apart inside my skull....eek!

hello everyone!
one of my goals for 2011 is to blog more and to showcase my photography on a more frequent basis. i am going to be back tomorrow with 2010 review. i will also post my black eyed pea bean dip for everyone. in the south - eating black eyed peas on new years day will bring the year with good luck. we have made just beans before - but last year i did a dip and made another one today.

both the boy and i are going to be making a list of 20 things to do and 11 places to visit for 2011 and i will post later this week.

It is that time again for the ornament swap. I totally love handmade ornaments and love decorating my Christmas tree with lovely things my friends have made!

Last year was an awesome success!

SOOOO here are the details... Make an handmade ornament for each participant of the swap, you can personalize, you can sew, you can make it out of paper, you can do whatever you would like!

Here are the fine details:

*Leave me a comment on this post with your e-mail address and if you are interested or e-mail me at kimistarr@gmail.com.

*I will close sign-ups on October 10th, 11:59 CST

*I will post the list of the participates on Friday Oct. 15th and will send an e-mail to all the participants with my mailing address.

*You will make 1 ornament for each participant in the swap, so if there are 15 participants, you will make 15 of one ornaments (you will get one back also).

*If there are more than 20 participants, I will break up the groups. If this does happen, I will find out if you want to participate in both groups.

*Please also include at least $8 for shipping and handling to get the packages back to you. A little more if you live outside of the US.

*All countries are open to partcipate. But please remember the deadline to receive the packages.

*Swap items will need to be sent to me by November 20th and I will get packages sent back out on December 4th. To unsure delivery before Christmas, if it is not received by that time I will have to take you out of the swap (unless there has been communication between us before that date that they will be late).

*You will need to send me an e-mail on when you have shipped the package. That way, if I don't receive it within 2 weeks...then we have an issue. Which did happen last year. I prefer you send with a tracking number. That way, you didn't put all this effort in your package for it to get lost.

i want to wish one of my bestest friends a happy birthday. it was yesterday...but seeing i just finished work at 2:30 am - i still consider it her birthday.

when i first met her - i didn't like her.

she was the girlfriend to my boyfriends' best friend.

i thought she was rude and her sense of humor was too harsh.

but after many years and now we work together...

i am happy to call her one of my closest friends.

i am not embarrassed to talk about stuff you don't talk about with "acquintances".

i was in her wedding and she will be there for mine.

our kids are going to be best friends.
i love her family like they were my own.

when she hurts, i hurt

i trust her with my life and my most valueable secrets.

uneventful, but hopeful

well life has been slightly...no really boring lately. i have had a lack of energy, sleepy all the time and working my brain off. if you didn't know already, i work with Microsoft. We have a lot of stuff coming up for the holiday season, which means I have been working my tail off. Kinect for XBox is coming out this Holiday Season and if you have a friend/boyfriend/husband/son/daughter, etc. that has a XBox I am sure the Kinect will be on their wish list. Well that is what I am working my brain on, that and 25 new hires in a few weeks, a training event in September that 140 people will attend and I am in charge of making sure all our people are on a flight and get to the hotel and back home again. Slightly stressful...plus I haven't been sleeping very good.
I am going to get a sleep test on Saturday to check out if there is an underlining reason why I am more tired in the mornings and throughout the day than when I went to sleep.
Also, it has been a scorching 100+ degree everyday here for the past 14 days or so! We haven't been doing much other than going to the store for dinner, running a few errands in the morning and staying hydrated.
So that is my exciteness lately. I have signed up for Home Ec and haven't had a chance to get the items for it and am too sleepy in the evening to even attempt to get my sewing machine out :(. I am also doing Janel's Journaling for a Cause class and need to get somethings to finish some of the pages.
Summer is too hot in Texas. It makes me exhausted and I can't wait for Autumn/Fall!!

I don't know about you, but I live in TX and it is hot as hell here in the summer. Yes, I love the summer, perfect days for swimming. But nothing more. There is not usually a cloud in the sky.
I can't wait till fall. Impromptu cloudy cool days! Sweaters, scarfs, boots and driving with the windows down.

back from the long weekend

we got back last night from a lovely weekend in Canyon Lake, TX where I floated the river. Charlie, just relaxed (since he hates river/lake water). I floated the Guadalupe River on Friday and Saturday. It was a lot of fun, but really busy on Saturday. I only brought my camera on Sat. because I didn't have a water proof case. My arms kill from paddling, but if you didn't know. I LOVE BEING IN WATER!! Love it, love it. No cell phones, no computers, no tv...just nature and good friends.

Charlie and I stopped in Austin on Sunday to visit Tattoo Mike and get cupcakes from Hey Cupcake!! I love that place.
